005 Hammer Time

Alternate names: Running For My Life, More HP (Please), They’re After My Delicious Cocoa Puffs…

Devlog #4

The combat prototype comes into focus! I now have one fully animated enemy and player, and the core combat systems are alive and well.

The player now is able to kill the enemies, and the enemies can destroy the player as well. To do it I logged 25 hours of time in my studio over the past 10 days brainstorming weapon types, constructing animations, and writing scripts. Not only is combat now functional, but I also added a ranged-type enemy as well as a lunging-type enemy, to add some variety and challenge, although they don’t have animations yet and one of them is completely transparent.

The Non-Combat Parts

“Hey Ethan, I like the look of the animations and the combat but, what is this game about?”

Thanks for asking! While I have been focusing a great deal of my effort on the combat part of the game, I have also been working on the game world and the overall design. It isn’t in a polished state yet, but for now I can share a few details.

  • Tags and Features: 2D Top-Down; Sci-Fi; Hack and Slash; Cartoon Hand-Drawn; Drum and Bass; Black and White.
  • Setting: Future, science fiction, Milky Way galaxy. Humans have begun to colonize other planets and have discovered other sentient and intelligent life that are likewise beginning to spread and colonize.
  • Main character: You play as a special agent working for a human government organization. Your role is loosely defined. You handle the missions on behalf of humanity that nobody else will take because they are either incredibly challenging or a death sentence.
  • Story: You take missions and follow the main character’s journey into the craziest parts of the galaxy. How will you adapt and survive?

It’s a loose pitch currently, but it will be receiving polish over the development to help fit the overall design. I am going for a unique narrative that comes from my own life experience.

BUILD ON EVERY DAY
